We Are Nature…

“Have you ever found someplace so beautiful, you just had a seat and stared in awe?

You stare and think about life and what it should be

You shouldn’t go to work on Monday, you should be free

Your soul, your heart, and your mind

Free to be you, and to remember you’re one of a kind

Take a deep breath and look at all that beauty

Then dig those feet into the dirt and rise up and tell everyone you know to come here to this spot and see

See the land and the sea

See it all…see our humanity

Share some of your peace, and nature’s song

Share the knowledge that nature is inside you where it has been all along…”

Poem by me inspired by a quote by Andy Goldsworthy

I had a very relaxing hike this past Thursday. Beautiful cold and crisp walk. This was a new forest I explored and it was beautiful. I love being down at the swamps, hopefully one day bigfoot will join me…

Thoughts Under a Tree…

“As I’m sitting here below a canopy of trees
Listening to the bird’s song playing above me
I think, how can anyone not love this?
How can they not be here?
But they are out there,
consuming and consuming without care
Look down at your babies and say
I don’t care if the planet is here for you one day
That if you grow up and it’s gone
That you didn’t do anything at all to save it along the way
You cut down every tree, paved every patch of land
I don’t know why humanity doesn’t understand
Every person needs the oxygen of nine trees to live
Look at the few trees around you,
The stumps only you left in your yard
Then maybe you’ll have two shits to give
When you have no animals to eat because you mowed down all the grass
How long do you think we can last?
I try to drive home this message with all that I do
Because if all out messages don’t work,
we are done as a species, there is no other planet, we are through
Maybe one day some form of life will look through our fossil record
And put the pieces together, that yes, it was us that wrecked it”
Poem and photos by me, written in the forest today…

Off Roading

Included in the wonderful world of Squatching and nature loving is our cars, and we give them quite a beating. Driving down known and unknown trails, all that mileage while we look for that special spot. Out trunk packed and weighed down with supplies. Kayaks, bikes or pop up tents attached, and if your Squatching you probably have plaster of paris and water leaking everywhere…(that may just be me actually) and probably not finally is mud and dirt all over it.

For me what works is carrying these types of things in my car permanently. I’m like Waldo, I never know where I’m going to be or what trail I’m going to find. I generally drive on a dirt road till it gets expensive. I’ve hit some unbelievable pot holes, dragged a tree branch under my car, my sister rode over a tree stump in my cat too. There have definitely been some astronomical auto repair bills. I’m not saying any of this is smart or good for our cars, we will do what we will do.

It’s part of being an explorer. And If you knew everything about every trail you headed down, then there would be no excitement and no adventure. Who wants that? So keep on enjoying your life just as you are. Definitely make sure one of your paths in life are dirt…
