“The wolf-like, bat-like, snake-like, bear-like, gargoyle-Gollum creature from Hell that sucks the blood out of chickens and goats” a good description of a chupacabra from David Buccilli from the Michigan Daily. But unfortunately many of the Chupacabra sightings turned out to be coyotes with various stages of mange. In fact, there have been both dogman and bigfoot sightings attributed to mange, bears, coyotes, etc.
I started to wonder how many cryptid encounters from the past were also mange. It would make sense now I think that if you’re are someone like myself out in the woods searching for bigfoot, we should add one more thing to be familiar with before venturing out, along with knowing how to identify animal prints, animal sounds, etc. wouldn’t it also be good to know what various wildlife with mange may look like too? What do you think about mange and cryptids?
My Tuesday morning thoughts…And I went with a chupacabra pic for this because I know looking at pictures of animals with mange can be upsetting, even to myself.
Vernon, B. C, Oct. 24. With a human footprint nineteen inches long, the big toe alone measuring five inches, it is left to the imagination to fill in the superstructure of this huge monster that has frightened the inhabitants of this smiling valley. Men, women and children have turned out to look with awe and wonder at the mysterious and .enormous “hoof.” It is a naked human foot in all the essentials, and its partner is at the other side of a six-foot creek, giving some idea of the pre-historic stride of the creature.
A resident was calmly sawing timber when a gentleman of the neighborhood came up to him and sprung the yarn on him so suddenly that he thought he had somebody from the New Westminster institution to deal with. But the informant was perfectly sane, and produced a stick with the pedal particulars carefully marked. The footprint was down the hill there for anybody to see. No one certainly ever heard of the fertile Okanagan producing stray giants but an old Indian gives color to the theory by averring that forty years ago there were what he terms giants who stole children and things. Perhaps this may be the last of the Canadian mound dwellers.
The reservation folks have certainly had a genuine scare and have called up all the whites round about to help them out. Rifles are all loaded and lanterns lit about in the darkness, so that it is unsafe for a stranger to loom up into view to suddenly when the least crash in the bush is sufficient to excite their tense nervous system.
Some have gone on the trail on horseback with magazine guns, but a few men even with a Maxim under each arm might not stand the ordeal of confronting a hairy monster some thirteen feet high, judging by the feet. Besides, the possession of the creature alive would be as good a financial “spec” as a valuable quarter section of Okanagan land. As there are no people around here to hoax and the Indians are too grave and occupied to manufacture footprints for sport the story and the evidence are just as stated, the Indians themselves being the most concerned and serious over it.”
The Bridgewater Triangle has many strange tales to tell and this is just one of them…
While scrolling away looking for something to watch I stumbled on a true crime mini series titled Fall River. Fall River is a town within the high strangeness area code of the Bridgewater Triangle. Fall River, mostly known from Lizzie Borden fame but it also has other grisly crimes its known for and the Satanic Panic murder case of Carl Drew is just one of them…
In 1980 there were two horrible vicious murders that took place around the infamous Freetown Forest area; known for anything from Bigfoot to UFOs. But this area also had another secret underworld to deal with, drugs and prostitution.
Carl Drew, known by the local police as a pimp and drug dealer at the top of the food chain in the Fall River area now became a number one suspect for the brutal murders of two females that worked on the streets for him.
But was Drew actually the murderer? Fall River seems to point to the possibilities that other suspects also had their reasons for murder.
Something wicked this way comes…
Carl Drew was said to be a satanic cult leader that believed he needed to have a blood sacrifice every 30 days on the full moon, he’d follow a ritual where victims are offered up as a sacrifice to Satan, who’ll then rise from the center of the pentagram. (not sure that really worked right) These rituals also allegedly included orgies and rituals where they wood replace the wine and the host of Catholic ceremonies with bodily fluids. Yeah I know my stomach flip flopped too while I watched this.
Drugs, prostitution and satan oh my…
In October 1979 the body of 17 year old Doreen Levesque was discovered at Diman Vocational High School. Her wrists were tied, she had been stabbed in the head and sustained multiple skull fractures, the medical examiners even suggested she may have been killed by stoning.
Witnesses stated that she was their sacrifice to satan and that Drew had ordered her throat to be slashed after her skull was fractured and began chanting an incoherent chant. It was said that Carl used his Satanic worship to scare and control all the prostitutes that worked on the street for him.
The second murdered girl, Karen Marsden was murdered because she was present at the first murder and was heard to be cutting a deal with the prosecution as a witness. Her throat was also cut and was said that Drew tore her head from her body and kicked the head like a ball. They finished up making by making Xs on her body using her blood. The documentary went into more detail so I’ll leave some of that information for later for you to see.
The documentary was suggesting maybe Carl Drew wasn’t the murderer and perhaps it was a different previous suspect. They are trying to appeal to get Drew a new trial, I will definitely follow this story and see what shakes out in the end after all this time. I recommend the watching the limited series for yourself to get the whole story, and see what you think…
I warn you the details of the murder are tough to see so maybe you need to hold the remote, ready to fast forward. I’m not sure who I think actually ordered these killings. I’m not sure I care which one. To me they were all a bad crew and should definitely be in jail forever…for something…
I thought it would be fun to go back and watch some of the old In Search Of episodes and highlight a few of the best here. Here is everyone’s favorite and the reason most of us decided to search for the elusive creature ourselves…
Mount Hood Oregon in 1974
A logger, Jack Cochran who was working in an area of fallen timber, explains what he saw…”I looked off towards the woods and saw was two long legs moving at the edge of the timber and as this thing walked, it walked with a glide and then it reached an arm out and kind of touched the tree as it walked by and I saw these wide shoulders then it just moved off down the hill.”
Cochran was an amateur artist and tried to sketch what he saw…”he was tall creature, long legged and hairy very broad shoulders and his head seemed to just spring up out of his shoulders, no neck. The arms were long and more in proportion than a human.”
From In Search Of…Bigfoot 1976
What a sight that must have been. I’m not sure I could go back up there. It has to be a life altering event seeing one and no one to tell because they wouldn’t believe you anyhow. I give him credit for coming on tv and sharing his encounter with the public masses. He too, like the show and the creature are a legend…
One evening, about 100 people saw a huge craft, “seven stories high,” emerging from the waters of the Ohio River. “It drifted slowly high above the river, then from the craft sped a dozen smaller vessels. They hovered motionless for half an hour, then moved away and disappeared. We called it the mother-ship and its scouts. “At least one person had a Polaroid camera and used it. But every picture turned out completely black.” The strange craft, with lights blazing, were seen patrolling the skies for months. Staring eyes “The lives of everyone who saw it were changed in some way,” said Linda. “I was divorced. The Malletes who first saw it with us refuse to even discuss it and live strictly on their own. A leading businessman turned to drink. A woman had a miscarriage. People who had never been ill in their lives began to pick up every ailment going.”
It was when the UFO eyewitnesses began to get together to talk about it that the strange things began to happen. I got the stories of people, who now refuse to give their names or to be interviewed, who were stalked by the men in black and white, and red and white, checkered shirts. These strangers, singly or in pairs, would be seen emerging from a garage just as the owners returned home.
Chidren who knew nothing about the UFOs or Mothman, reported walking during the night and finding the strangers in the room, just staring at them. i All our lives changed in some way Lonnie McDaniel told of his own experience. “I was in a friend’s house, both of us watching TV. Suddenly the set went black and a voice said, “We’re not finished with you yet.”
Then the film came back on again.” On December 15,1967, a year after the first arrival of Mothman, tragedy and horror struck Point Pleasant. The 700-foot long Silver Bridge spanning the Ohio River collapsed without warning, taking 31 vehicles and carrying 46 people to death in the icy waters. Author Keel is of the opinion that the tragedy was somehow connected to the UFO presence, and so are many of the townspeople.
It was when Mrs. McDaniel tried to contact a woman who had seen Mothman that I experienced for myself the eerie phenomenom of the telephone interference. Clicking The dialing tone had gone for several rings. Then there was silence, then a loud clicking began. Mrs. McDaniel, from the other end of the room, held up the phone. I could distinctly hear the sounds — loud pings and clicks. They continued for five minutes, then the phone went dead. It was not until the next day that I was able to get in touch with the woman, Mrs. Marcella Bennet, 34. Mrs. Bennet was visiting her sister when she met Mothman. “I walked to the back of the car and suddenly it was in front of me. It was about six feet tall, and in the little light there was, I could see its body covered in gray feathers. It was hunched over, looking at me, but I saw no red eyes.” But somehow she got inside the house, and Mothman went after her. Her nephew Ricky slammed the glass door shut and pushed a table against it while the creature battered against the door. Then he grabbed a flashlight and shone it on the thing. Mothman turned and vanished.
Mrs. Bennet had a miscarriage. One woman who kept on delving into the mysterious UFOs was Mary Hyre, a local journalist. One day she told friends of a phone call and a strange male voice telling her: “Soon you’ll be in some other place.” A few weeks later, on February 15,1970, she died suddenly, aged 54. WHATEVER the truth about the Mothman, it has the whole area worried. A few hours after our investigation started Reporter Scott and Photographer Ranns were stopped by police and told to leave the State.
When loggers mentioned strange footprints in the woods, Edson would pack up his gear after work and spend that night and the next day tracking Bigfoot. Some nights, Edson said, the creature’s moans would keep him awake all night. At other times. . he’d catch a whiff of Bigfoot’s characteristic foul odor. Bigfoot though, he keeps a low profile Edson is sure that Marukarara. the Karok term for Bigfoot, doesn’t appear before men unless the creature is curious – or angry. “They hate all logging equipment because they think it is spoiling their environment.” Edson said, and that’s the explanation he offers for his one experience with a violent Bigfoot. .
Edson said he was waiting to unload a truckful of logs at a landing when “this thing came down from the hills. He began beating the hood of the truck with his arms,” Edson said . “He didn’t want me or he could’ve broken the window and grabbed me” Instead. Edson theorizes, the creature was disturbed by the logging.”
“A black, ape-like creature passed by Charles Edson’s hiding place. Then slowly turned and stared directly at the hunter. . “It knew I was there all the time,” Edson said. Bigfoot. Sasquatch. Marukarara. the Giant -Mountains People. Edson’s years of stalking the alleged creatures have made him a Bigfoot booster and given him material for his first book, “My Travels With Bigfoot ” . Edson’s account of his search for Marukarara from 1952 to 1967 is unusual in the annals of Bigfoot books because it is a first-person account that features several face-to-face encounters with the alleged creature. . The. Bigfoot field Is a natural for skeptics, but Crescent Publications of Los Angeles is not one of them. Crescent forwarded Edson a $1,500 advance payment for ‘Travels” and organized a book party for Saturday at 7 pm in the Newark Pavilion.
Bigfoot photos, casts of footprints, and a film will be shown. Edson will autograph copies of what he calls “A True Life Odyssey.” Edson looks like he’d be more at home pursuing mysterious, howling creatures across Northern California mountains than standing around publishers’ parties. A burly man, the logger and part-. time deputy sheriff, in Siskiyou County bears a faint resemblance to actor Richard Boone.
More than 25 years ago. Edson was introduced to the bizarre world of Bigfoot by a Karok Indian, Barry Harper. Harper and Edson were hunting one day when the quiet Karok showed Edson footprints made by some huge creature. They were 15 to 17 inches long, with large toes, like the misshapen footprint of a huge man, Edson said. In the high country north of the Trinity Alps. Harper showed Edson many of the tracks. Edson was intrigued, but not a great believer. I kept hunting and hunting and one day I found it.” he said. On a ridge about a mile away from Edson.
He saw what looked like a black bear on its hind legs. As he continued to watch, though. Edson said he was convinced that he was spying on Bigfoot. “It was like (catching) gold fever.” he said. For the next 12 years, he would chase after evidence of Bigfoot, forming theories about what the creature is and how it behaves.
Edson theorizes, the creature was disturbed by the logging. Indians told Edson that A Murakarara used to feed near the Klamath river but an increased number or people . Mainly loggers chased them back up the mountains. So what are these thing? . ‘ Edson offered two possibilities – “missing links between apes and men on the evolutionary scale, or a tribe of primitive Indians afflicted by a hereditary aisease. . Other Bigfoot theories advanced by Edson’ include these . During winter, they keep warm by sticking moss to their hairy body with tree sap. Only solo Bigfoot have been reported or spotted, but Edson believes they travel in family groups. ,” , Bigfoot understands that men are interested in him. but is wary of outsiders – especially those ‘ , carrying anything metallic.
Edson eventually gave up carrying a gun on Murakarara expeditions and said it helped his hunting. Bigfoot is sneaky. Its bones have never been found, and Edson said he’s seen the creature erasing its tracks before. Although Fremont is far from the haunts of Bigfoot. an entire room of Edson’s home is devoted to Bigfoot souvenirs – from dozens of plaster casts of footprints to newspaper clippings about the beast.
Due to an ailment, it’s been years- since he tracked Bigfoot. but he used the year and a half of his convalescence period to compose: . “Travels” This summer. Edson promised, he’ll be back to Bigfoot country, searching for the definitive proof that has eluded him and other Bigfoot fanciers. And the ailment that has kept him from hunting the Marukarara is just a coincidence, he said with a laugh, my feet were operated on.”
I really enjoyed this article. Edson and I seem to share a lot of the same theories to what a Bigfoot could be. The missing link or a split somewhere on the evolutionary scale.
And also the bit where he mentions not wanting to take anything metallic such as a gun with him. That is definitely my thoughts exactly. If they are there in the woods with me somewhere I don’t want them to think I’m going to harm them in any way. Or drag them home. I want them to stay wild and live in peace.
Every Bigfoot researcher, like myself, have different theories to whether they are man or ape, and they also have different approaches to what they like to do in the field. Carry film equipment? Weapons? Passive like me,etc. It’s a good thing because until we get a chance to ask one personally we need to try everything.
Have an awesome Sunday everyone and keep on Squatchin on…
According to The New York Evening Post, In August of 1805, sailors came across a sea creature on their sail in the waters between Ontario Canada and New York. It was described as having the body of a snake with horns on its head. It was said to move its body quickly, and curled it was at least 18 feet. Curled? 18 feet? 😱 And in the Atlantic Ocean? They told The New York Evening Post that it raced them back to shore.
“With the swiftness of an arrow, It darted towards them, and they discovered It to be a monster in the form of a snake. They were dreadfully frightened” they told the Post. Who wouldn’t be? It continued reading… “It contracted itself into a spiral form, which they judged to be nearly eighteen feet in diameter , From the centre of the curl, the head projected across the folds, lying even with the surface of the water, and, apparently its circumference was almost as large as a hogshead ; the mouth frighttully large, and aspect terrible. The length, as it appeared above the water, they judged to be about 150 feet. Quick it changed its course and went after another vessel, which had left Kingston around the same time as themselves, bound for Niagara, and when it was out of sight for the moment they raced to shore. The men understood that the Indians have frequently seen the same creature. They were told once it had attempted to pick a man out of a schooner, that the man saved himself by jumping into the cabin. A number of boats have been lost out here and some were destroyed, they believe by this mysterious creature…”

SKUNK APE:Police and wildlife officials comb the Everglades for evidence of an alleged “skunk ape” which a local man claimed to have hit with his automobile. The man said the unclothed being ran away into the ‘glades after being hit. No evidence was found to back up the fact that such an animal exists. “Skunk Ape’- Is It Real ? Nell Jones has come to love every creature in southern Florida’s Everglades after living among them for 18 years. She’d probably love the “skunk ape,” too, if there is one. Two small poodles, a large dog, a raccoon and a opossum get a daily feeding from her hand, living off her belief that there is ‘”nothing out here that won’t love you if you let it.” That’s why she is upset that reports of an eight-foot tall skunk ape have moved from central Florida’s Cypress Swamp to the area she calls home. “I believe this is a big, old, funny joke,” said Mrs. Jones, 52, who operates a fish camp, just south of where a sighting of the legendary creature was reported two days ago. “There is nothing out here but just things that you could love if you could get a-hold of them—or that won’t love you if you let them,” Mrs. Jones said. In the predawn hours Wednesday a motorist traveling along the nearby highway said he saw one twice and even hit one with his car, the dark, hairy creature that previously has been reported-sighted around the west central part of the state, near Brooksville and in The Big Cypress Swamp. The police who combed the area on foot and on halftrack Wednesday and again before dawn Thursday failed to turn up any evidence that any such creature had been in the area, although a patrolman reported seeing a huge silhouette and another said there were trampled bushes and uprooted trees in an area of the swamps. One believer in the legendary creature, Robert Morgan, is an active member of the American Yeti Expedition, an affiliate of the National Wildlife Federation. Morgan, who joined policemen in their investigation Wednesday, said the so-called skunk ape is a member of the Yeti family that includes the reported “Abomniable Snowman of the Himalayas.” He said “hunters and children alike have seen the Creature…”

The latest search for Bigfoot was triggered by tlhe finding of apparently human hair near huge, man-like footprints near St. Helens. Robert W. Morgan, director of the American- Yeti said hair was from a search of his camp Monday that The hair was near where giant footprints were found about a month ago by tracker in a dense forest.
The trackers were on a trail when they came upon a small stream As they started to cross the creek, they noticed a very fresh scuff mark on a moss-covered rock.
That was where the hair strands were found. Morgan said the tracker spotted huge man-like footprints nearby as well. The prints were up stream about 20 yards then circled back near the other tracks before the trail just disappeared. “That’s exactly the movement a primate would make if it was wishing to observe without not being observed,” Morga suggested. ‘I’m not saying it was Bigfoot, but it’s unlikely that a barefooted human would go running around in that area, if it was a human, why would he want to hide from two other humans?” Mary Joe Florey, a microbiologist from Portland, Ore., examined the hair and concluded it was human, most probably from an ankle or leg,. Morgan said analysis of the hair will continue, – including comparison with hair he found two years ago on a fence near spot where deer had been savagely killed and also where other large footprints had been discovered. ‘If it was a Bigfoot, then it opens up many new doors,’ said Morgan, who has led group of scientists and trackers; this summer in a search for the creature. “It’s something we’re very excited about.” He said, the hunt for a Bigfoot will continue in the south western -Washington area “until the snow flies”.
